Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 12 and 13, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 12 and 13, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,364 interventions (an average of one intervention every 19 seconds), including 2,228 medical evacuations and 545 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 228 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 3 fatalities at the scene and 269 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Chlef province, where 2 people died, 2 others sustained burns, and 3 suffered other injuries. This resulted from a collision between two vehicles followed by a fire on the road known as “El Qashashda,” in the municipality of Akacha, Ténès district.
For your information, Civil Protection personnel intervened to extinguish seven urban and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (4 fires), El Tarf (1 fire), Oran (1 fire), and Annaba (1 fire). These fires resulted in six people suffering from respiratory distress following a fire that broke out in an apartment on the third floor of a four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the 300-unit housing complex in Kourichi, El Tarf municipality and district. Additionally, one person sustained second-degree burns and another suffered from respiratory distress following a fire in a garage on the ground floor of a two-story building (ground floor + 2 floors) in the 200-unit housing complex in Es Senia municipality and district, Oran province. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local hospitals. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,044 interventions, rescuing 705 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 286 people on site. Additionally, 53 people were transferred to local health centers. One person drowned in the sea in the province of Algiers: a 58-year-old man who drowned at Blue Beach (a beach open for swimming outside of lifeguard hours), in the municipality of Staoueli, Zeralda district. The victim’s body was transferred to the local hospital.
Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 36 fires of vegetation cover, including: 11 forest fires, 4 bush and scrub fires, 3 dry grass fires, (2) agricultural crop fires, (2) fruit tree fires, 10 hay belt fires and 4 palm fires, at the level of several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed for the extinguishing of these fires and the prevention of their spread to the rest of the vegetation cover.
