Civil Protection Units intervention results between July 17 and 18, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)
Between July 17 and 18, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,586 interventions (an average of one intervention every 15 seconds), including 2,098 medical evacuations and 817 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 210 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 6 fatalities at the scene and 294 injuries of varying severity. The injured were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Relizane, where 2 people died in a collision between a motorcycle and a semi-trailer truck at the Relizane roundabout, within the municipality and district of Relizane.
For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish four urban and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), El Oued (1 fire), and Jijel (1 fire). These fires resulted in one person sustaining minor burns after a fire broke out inside a greenhouse used as a poultry farm on the “Santouhi” farm in the municipality of Heraoua, Rouiba district, Algiers province. The victim received on-site treatment and was then transferred to Ain Taya Hospital. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled them to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,681 interventions, which allowed for the rescue of 1,171 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 367 people on site, in addition to transferring 140 people to local health centers. Three people drowned in the sea, two in the province of Mostaganem and one in the province of Bejaia. In Mostaganem: the first case involved a 10-year-old child who drowned at the rocky beach known as the mouth of the Chelif River (a prohibited swimming area), in the municipality of Ben Abdelmalek Ramdane, Sidi Lakhdar district. The second case involved a 17-year-old teenager who drowned at El Ans beach (a prohibited swimming area), in the municipality and district of Mostaganem. In Bejaia: the second case involved a 26-year-old man who drowned… At the Sidi Serhane beach (swimming permitted outside of lifeguard hours), in the municipality and district of Aokas, the victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals.
It should be noted that a death was recorded in the water reservoirs of Touggourt province. A 30-year-old man drowned in a reservoir in the “Ferjemoun” neighborhood of Tebesbest municipality, Touggourt district. The victim was transferred to the local hospital.
Furthermore, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 154 vegetation fires, including: 31 forest fires, 9 brush fires, 33 scrubland fires, 28 crop fires, 23 fruit tree fires, 29 hay bale fires, and 1 palm tree fire, across several provinces of the country. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
