Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between July 16 and 17, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

  Between July 16 and 17, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,861 interventions (an average of one intervention every 17 seconds), including 2,247 medical evacuations and 765 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 279 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 12 deaths at the scene and injuries to 394 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of El Menia, where two people died and two others sustained various injuries following a collision between two motorcycles on the road to El Nabka, in the municipality and district of El Menia.

For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish nine urban, industrial, and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), Annaba (2 fires), Batna (1 fire), Ouargla (1 fire), Boumerdès (1 fire), Ain Salah (1 fire), and Blida (1 fire). In Batna province, these fires resulted in 13 people suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in shops on the ground floor of a two-story building (ground floor + 2 floors) in the 84-unit housing complex in Batna. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 942 interventions, rescuing 637 people from drowning and providing first aid to 252 people on site. Additionally, 51 people were transferred to local health centers. One drowning death was recorded in the Skikda province, involving a 29-year-old man who died at Miramar Beach in the Skikda municipality.

It should be noted that two deaths were recorded in water reservoirs in the Tipaza and Ain Defla provinces. A 56-year-old man drowned in an irrigation basin in the area known as Mazraat Karfa, in the Bouraika municipality of Tipaza province, and a 12-year-old boy drowned in a pool of water in the area known as El Makhfi, in the El Main municipality of Ain Defla province. The victims were transferred to local hospitals.

Similarly, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 170 vegetation fires, including: 39 forest fires, 6 scrubland fires, 25 brush fires, 57 crop fires, 16 fruit tree fires, 23 hay bale fires, and 4 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation. In the same context of forest, scrubland, and brush fires, significant resources of the Civil Protection were mobilized in the field, supported by aerial assets, to extinguish 19 fires that were still burning (3 in Bejaia, 2 in Saida, 1 in Annaba, 4 in Blida, 2 in Boumerdes, 1 in Souk Ahras, 1 in Bouira, 3 in Skikda, and 2 in Medea). Civil Protection personnel involved in these operations were immediately deployed in 45 provinces, as well as the unit. The National Training and Intervention Center in Casablanca, following the continuation of the heatwave for the next 72 hours, notes that the supervision, management, and monitoring of the response to major forest fires is being carried out under the leadership of the Director General of Civil Protection, Colonel Boualem Boughelouf, and central directors to ensure the most accurate details. On the other hand, recommendations and guidelines have been published and presented to citizens by the General Directorate of Civil Protection within the framework of the smooth conduct of firefighting operations without hindering relief and firefighting efforts, leaving the task to specialists in the field for the safety of citizens and to avoid exposing them to risks and to prevent human losses. Within the framework of the culture of reporting, the General Directorate of Civil Protection has made the green number 1021 or the emergency number 14 available to citizens to report any danger, specifying the nature of the danger and the exact address in order to ensure a quick and effective intervention.
