The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 18 and 19, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

   Between July 18 and 19, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,219 interventions (an average of one intervention every 16 seconds), including 2,252 medical evacuations and 1,011 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 249 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 12 deaths at the scene and injuries to 284 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest death toll was recorded in the province of Mascara, with 6 fatalities following a collision between a car and a truck on the East-West Highway in the municipality and district of Zahan. Similarly, in the province of El M’Ghair, 5 people died in a collision between a car and a truck on National Route 123 in the municipality and district of Djamaa.

For your information, the Civil Protection services of Setif intervened to extinguish a fire in a plastic waste recycling plant at a plastic pipe manufacturing factory in the Setif industrial zone. One person sustained various injuries and received on-site treatment before being transferred to the local hospital. Eleven intervention teams were deployed, including nine fire trucks, one ladder truck, and one ambulance. Our rapid response enabled us to extinguish the fire and prevent its spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service over the past 24 hours, they carried out 1,052 interventions, rescuing 662 people from drowning and providing first aid to 332 people on-site. Additionally, 58 people were transferred to local health centers. No deaths at sea were recorded.

Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Crops Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 173 vegetation fires, including: 38 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 42 scrubland fires, 23 agricultural crop fires, 24 fruit tree fires, 38 hay bale fires, and 5 palm tree fires, across several states of the country. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to the rest of the vegetation.
