The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 19 and 20, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

  Between July 19 and 20, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,813 interventions (an average of one intervention every 17 seconds), including 2,281 medical evacuations and 801 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 200 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 13 deaths at the scene and injuries to 210 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest tolls were recorded in the provinces of Béchar and Skikda. In Béchar province, two people died and one was injured in a collision between two vehicles on National Road 6, within the municipality and district of Béchar. In Skikda province, two people died in a collision between a car and a truck in the area known as “Bendich Ammar,” within the municipality and district of Azzaba.

For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Djelfa, Oran, and Blida. These fires resulted in 13 people suffering from respiratory distress. One fire broke out in an electrical box on the ground floor of a four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the city center of Azazga, Tizi Ouzou province. Additionally, two people suffered respiratory difficulties in a separate fire that broke out in an electrical box on the ground floor of another four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the “El-Qaid Saleh” neighborhood of Had Sahari municipality and district, Djelfa province. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local health centers. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Civil Protection officers in Tamanrasset intervened following the collapse of a concrete wall at a residence in the Al-Salam neighborhood of Tamanrasset municipality. This incident resulted in the death of two children, aged one and six, and injuries to one other person. The victims were transported to the local hospital.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service over the past 24 hours, they carried out 980 interventions, rescuing 685 people from drowning and providing first aid to 259 people on site. Additionally, 40 people were transferred to local health centers. One child, aged nine, drowned at the beach known as Sirane 2 (open for swimming outside of lifeguard hours) in Bordj El Kiffan municipality, Dar El Beida district, Algiers province. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue.

It should be noted that two teenagers, aged 12 and 16, drowned in a pond in the area known as “Salmon El Hachemi,” in the municipality of Ain El Barda, Annaba Province. The victims were transferred to the morgue at the local hospital.

Furthermore, during the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 146 vegetation fires, including: 46 forest fires, 14 brush fires, 9 scrubland fires, 27 crop fires, 23 fruit tree fires, 20 hay bale fires, and 7 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. The rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
