Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 4 and 5, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 4th and 5th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,012 interventions, averaging one intervention every 17 seconds. These included 2,324 medical evacuations and 630 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 194 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 11 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 243 others, ranging in severity. The injured were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.
For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers (two fires) and Sidi Bel Abbès (one fire). These fires resulted in one adult and one child suffering from respiratory distress following a fire that broke out in a first-floor apartment of a two-story building in the Tira area, Zeralda municipality and district, Algiers province. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local health center. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,413 interventions, rescuing 1,092 people from drowning and providing first aid to 275 people on site. Additionally, 44 people were transferred to local health centers. One young man, aged 23, drowned at the beach known as “Al-Biaa” in the municipality and district of Chétaïbi. His body was transferred to the morgue at the local hospital.
Furthermore, the Civil Protection services of Saïda province intervened to recover the body of a 4-year-old girl who drowned in a swimming pool in the village of Hamidat, municipality of Ouled Khaled, district of Sidi Boubekeur. Her body was transferred to the morgue at Ahmed Medghri Hospital.
Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 54 fires of vegetation, including: 11 forest fires, 1 bush fire, 14 scrubland fires, 5 agricultural crop fires, 10 fruit tree fires, 10 hay belt fires and 3 palm fires, across several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to the rest of the vegetation.
