Evaluation meeting to assess air support operations to extinguish forest fires during July 2026

As part of an evaluation of forest fire fighting operations and efforts to enhance the readiness of the intervention system, the National Training and Intervention Unit hosted an evaluation meeting dedicated to reviewing the results of aerial operations conducted during July 2026.

The meeting was chaired by the Director of Operations Organization and Coordination, with the participation of officials from the General Directorate of Civil Protection, representatives from the Civil Protection Air Group, the Commander of the National Training and Intervention Unit, and representatives from the Tassili Air Group.

This meeting provided an opportunity for a comprehensive assessment of various aspects of aerial support operations. This included reviewing interventions carried out, analyzing operational, organizational, and logistical aspects, examining the level of coordination among the various stakeholders, evaluating the effectiveness of aerial firefighting resources in supporting ground teams, and identifying the main challenges encountered during the period of intense forest fire activity.

Experiences were shared, lessons learned were drawn, and a number of proposals and recommendations were presented to improve performance, strengthen operational coordination, and enhance the readiness of aerial intervention resources. These measures aim to ensure a more effective and efficient response to forest fires. This meeting comes within the framework of the General Directorate of Civil Protection’s ongoing endeavor to develop the intervention system, through continuous performance evaluation, and the adoption of mechanisms for improvement and coordination between various partners, in order to contribute to the protection of lives, property and forest resources.
