Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 5 and 6, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 5th and 6th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,557 interventions (an average of one intervention every 18 seconds), including 2,156 medical evacuations and 549 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 222 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 10 deaths at the scene and injuries to 255 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Constantine province, where 6 people died and 22 others sustained injuries of varying severity. This resulted from a traffic accident involving a bus transporting workers that veered off the road, overturned, and plunged down a slope on National Route 79 in the municipality and district of Ibn Ziad, Constantine province.
For your information, the Civil Protection units of Algiers intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out in a second-floor apartment in a residential building in the 600-unit housing complex in Ain Benian municipality, Cheraga district. The fire resulted in a baby suffering from respiratory distress. The child received on-site medical attention and was then transferred to the local hospital. Our emergency services successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,249 interventions, rescuing 944 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 257 people on site. Additionally, 48 people were transferred to local health centers. Two (2) drowning deaths were recorded: one in Oran Province: a 19-year-old drowned at Kristel Beach (a rocky beach where swimming is prohibited), in the municipality and district of Quedil; and one in Chlef Province: a 9-year-old drowned at a beach where swimming is prohibited, in the area known as Dachria, in the municipality of Dahra, district of Taougrit. The bodies of the victims were transferred to local hospitals by Civil Protection personnel.
Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Crops Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 55 fires of vegetation cover, including: 09 forest fires, 07 bush and scrub fires, 04 dry grass fires, 04 agricultural crop fires, 08 fruit tree fires, 21 hay bale fires and 02 palm tree fires, at the level of several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed for the extinguishing of these fires and the prevention of their spread to the rest of the vegetation cover.
