Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 23 and 24, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)
Between August 23 and 24, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,226 interventions (an average of one intervention every 20 seconds), including 2,133 medical evacuations and 529 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 212 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 8 people at the scene and injuries to 267 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incidents occurred in Tissemsilt province, where 2 people died and 5 others were injured when a car veered off the road and overturned on National Route 5 in the area known as “Kaf Mahmoud,” in the municipality of Boutchent, Thénia El Had district. In Bouira province, 2 people died and 1 was injured in a collision between two vehicles on National Route 18 in the area known as “Ain El Aloui,” in the municipality and district of Ain Bessam.
For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Constantine, Tipaza, and Boumerdès. These fires resulted in three women suffering from respiratory distress. The first fire occurred in an apartment on the second floor of a building (1st floor + 11th floor) in the Cosider Sabliar neighborhood of Boumerdès municipality and district. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to the local health center. Our emergency response enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 966 interventions, which allowed for the rescue of 704 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 223 people on site, in addition to transferring 37 people to local health centers. Three drowning deaths were recorded in the sea: in Chlef Province: a 17-year-old teenager who drowned at the beach called Dati (a beach where swimming is permitted – orange flag); in the municipality of Sidi Abderrahmane, Ténès District; in Mostaganem Province: a 17-year-old teenager who drowned at the beach called Sablettes West (a beach where swimming is permitted – red flag); in the municipality of Mazagran, Hassi Mamache District; and in Tipaza Province: a 22-year-old man who drowned at the beach called Chenoua (a beach where swimming is permitted – orange flag). In Tipaza, the victims’ bodies were transferred to local hospitals.
During the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 60 vegetation fires, including: 9 forest fires, 2 brush fires, 9 scrubland fires, 1 agricultural crop fire, 19 fruit tree fires, 15 hay bale fires, and 5 palm tree fires, across several provinces nationwide. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
