Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 30 and 31, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 30 and 31, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,656 interventions (an average of one intervention every 23 seconds), including 2,039 medical evacuations and 490 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 192 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 7 fatalities at the scene and 246 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest death toll was recorded in the provinces of Setif and Bordj Bou Arreridj. In Setif, 3 people died in 2 separate traffic accidents. In Bordj Bou Arreridj, 2 people died when a car veered off the road and plunged down a slope on National Route 5, in the area known as Oued Ksir, within the municipality and district of Mansoura.
Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish five separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers (2 fires), Annaba (2 fires), Medea (1 fire), and Ain Defla (1 fire). These fires resulted in 13 people suffering from respiratory distress due to smoke inhalation. The fires, which involved electrical meters in the provinces of Annaba, Medea, and Ain Defla, provided necessary first aid to the victims and transported them to local health facilities.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 679 interventions, rescuing 478 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 181 people on site. Additionally, 20 people were transferred to local health centers. One drowning death was recorded in the sea in Boumerdès Province. The first case involved a 30-year-old man who drowned at a beach designated for swimming (outside of lifeguard hours) in the municipality of Zemmouri, Bordj Menaïel District. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.
Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 35 fires of vegetation cover, including: 15 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 4 scrubland fires, 2 fruit tree fires, 6 hay belt fires and 3 palm fires, at the level of several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed for the extinguishing of these fires and the prevention of their spread to the rest of the vegetation cover.
