Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between September 10 and 12, 2026 (in the last 48 hours)
Between September 10 and 12, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 6,495 interventions—averaging one every 26 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.
Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 382 incidents recorded across the country. These accidents resulted in 11 fatalities at the scene and left 466 others with injuries of varying severity; victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals. Civil Protection units also intervened to extinguish six urban fires across several provinces: Annaba (2), Mila (1), Tlemcen (1), Algiers (1), and Médéa (1). These incidents resulted in three people suffering various burns and two others experiencing shock following a fire in a first-floor apartment of a two-story building (ground floor + 1) in the “Chorfa” neighborhood of Berrouaghia (Médéa Province). Additionally, three people suffered from respiratory distress due to a fire in a ground-floor apartment of a three-story building (ground floor + 2) in the “552 Dwellings” neighborhood of Yahia Ben Guecha (Mila Province). The victims received on-site care before being transferred to local health centers; Civil Protection teams successfully brought the fires under control and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas.
Furthermore, Civil Protection units in Ouargla Province responded to an incident involving a mains gas leak followed by an explosion in a two-story residence (ground floor + 1) in the “Cheikh Bouamama” neighborhood of Hassi Messaoud. The incident left one woman with third-degree burns; she received on-site treatment before being transported to the local hospital. Regarding the interventions of beach lifeguard units over the past 48 hours, lifeguards carried out 1,178 operations, resulting in the rescue of 833 people from imminent drowning and the provision of on-site first aid to 311 individuals; additionally, 33 people were transferred to local health centers. Three drowning fatalities were recorded: two in the province of Tipaza and one in the province of El Tarf. In Tipaza province, the first case involved a 24-year-old man who drowned in a rocky area known as “Hay Khenchi” (where swimming is prohibited) in the municipality of Ain Tagourait, Bou-Ismail district. The second case involved a 35-year-old man who drowned at the beach known as “Chenoua 02” (a beach where swimming is permitted, though the red flag was raised) in the municipality and district of Tipaza. In El Tarf province, the case involved a 22-year-old man who drowned at the beach known as “Messida” (a beach where swimming is permitted, though the red flag was raised) in the municipality of Souarekh, El Kala district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to local hospitals. During the same period, firefighting units intervened to extinguish 23 vegetation fires across various provinces. These included 3 forest fires, 1 scrub fire, 2 brush fires, 4 fruit tree fires, 8 hay bale fires, and 4 palm tree fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
Regarding the heavy rainfall that affected the provinces of Tissemsilt, Mila, and Oum El Bouaghi, our teams intervened to rescue a person trapped in a vehicle due to rising floodwaters in the town center of Chelghoum Laïd (Mila Province). Another rescue operation took place in Oum El Bouaghi Province, where a person was saved from a vehicle stranded by rising waters at a location known as “Hanchir Ouled Salam” in the municipality of Souk Naamane. Additionally, our teams carried out operations to pump out accumulated rainwater from 19 ground-floor homes in the same municipality, as well as from a residence in the “Bastil Village” area of Aïn M’lila municipality. In Tissemsilt Province, accumulated rainwater was pumped out of a home and a shop in the “Hattab Meissoum” neighborhood of Khemisti municipality; no casualties were reported.
