Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 16 and 17, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

  Between September 16 and 17, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,039 interventions—averaging one intervention every 28 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 221 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in six fatalities at the scene and left 212 others with injuries of varying severity; victims received on-site care and were subsequently transported by our teams to local hospitals.

Civil Protection teams also intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Annaba, Skikda, and Oran. These incidents caused six people to suffer from respiratory distress. Notably, a fire broke out in a ten-story building (ground floor plus nine upper floors) in the “1200-Unit Housing Complex” in Meserghine Municipality (Botlelis District, Oran Province); the victims received on-site care before being transferred to a local health center.

Our emergency teams successfully brought the fires under control and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas. Regarding the interventions carried out by beach lifeguard and recreation personnel over the past 24 hours, lifeguards conducted 229 operations, successfully rescuing 119 people from imminent drowning and administering first aid to 108 individuals on-site. Additionally, two people were transferred to local health centers, with no drowning fatalities recorded.
