Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between October 1 and 3, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

Between October 1 and October 3, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 5,938 interventions—averaging one every 29 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, security-related operations, and incidents caused by adverse weather conditions.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 415 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 14 fatalities at the scene and left 492 others with injuries of varying severity. Victims received on-site care and were transported by Civil Protection teams to local hospitals. The highest toll was recorded in the province of Algiers, where 44 interventions resulted in two fatalities and 57 injuries. Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish five urban and miscellaneous fires across several provinces: Algiers (two fires), Boumerdès (one), Bordj Bou Arreridj (one), and M’Sila (one). The most significant incident occurred at a physical therapy and herbal medicine center in the Bachdjerrah 3 neighborhood (Bachdjerrah Municipality, El Harrach District) in Algiers; the fire resulted in 23 casualties—21 suffering from toxic smoke inhalation (including two in critical condition) and two sustaining burns. Victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals. Civil Protection interventions successfully extinguished the fires and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas.

Additionally, Civil Protection personnel provided first aid to eight individuals suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by heating appliances—four in Algiers and four in Djelfa. The victims received on-site treatment and were urgently transported to local hospitals. During the same period, forest and crop firefighting units intervened to extinguish 43 vegetation fires across various provinces nationwide. These included 2 forest fires, 12 brush fires, 10 fruit tree fires, 13 hay bale fires, and 6 palm tree fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.

Regarding the heavy rainfall experienced in the provinces of Batna, Tamanrasset, Illizi, Djanet, and Tlemcen during this same period, Civil Protection units in Batna province intervened in several incidents. They recovered the body of a three-year-old child and rescued two individuals from a vehicle swept away by the waters of Oued Bounaassan at a location known as Merial (in the municipality and district of Taouzelt). Additionally, they recovered the body of a 25-year-old man who had been swept away by the waters of a wadi at a location known as Safah (in the municipality of Foum El Toub). The bodies of the victims were transported to local hospital facilities.
