Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between October 15 and 17, 2026 (within the last 48 hours)

Between October 15 and October 17, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 6,521 interventions—averaging one intervention every 26 seconds—across various provinces in the country, following distress calls from citizens. These operations spanned the full scope of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, household accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, security-related support, and incidents resulting from adverse weather conditions.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units conducted 429 interventions across several provinces. These incidents resulted in 14 fatalities at the scenes and left 545 others with injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site care before being transported by our teams to local hospitals.

Additionally, Civil Protection personnel provided first aid to 13 individuals suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning—caused by heating appliances and water heaters—in the following provinces: Saïda (3 people), Naâma (4 people), Tiaret (4 people), and Blida (2 people). The victims were treated on-site and subsequently transported in stable condition to local medical facilities. Civil Protection personnel intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Laghouat, Skikda, Khenchela, and In Guezzam. One individual sustained second-degree burns during a vehicle fire on National Road No. 1, in the municipality and district of Laghouat; the victim received on-site medical attention before being transported to a local hospital. Our teams successfully brought these fires under control, preventing them from spreading to adjacent areas.

During the same period, units tasked with combating forest and agricultural fires responded to 44 incidents involving vegetation. These included one forest fire, five brush fires, 13 scrub fires, 10 fires affecting fruit-bearing trees, 11 fires involving hay bales, and four fires involving palm trees across various provinces. The rapid and effective intervention of our services ensured these fires were extinguished and prevented them from spreading further.

Regarding interventions following heavy rainfall in the provinces of Timimoun, Adrar, and El Bayadh, Civil Protection teams in Timimoun rescued 120 sheep trapped by rising floodwaters at a location known as Oued Amguidene, in the municipality of Timimoun. Additionally, in the province of El Bayadh, teams recovered a semi-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle that had become stuck in the mud at a site known as Oued Tafrihet, in the municipality of El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh.
