Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 30 and May 2, 2026 (within the last 48 hours)

Between April 30 and May 2, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,938 interventions (an average of one intervention every 29 seconds), including 4,039 medical evacuations and 1,001 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, security operations, and weather-related incidents.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 325 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 8 people at the scene and injuries to 441 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest toll was recorded in the province of Setif, with 2 deaths and 26 injuries resulting from 16 interventions related to road accidents.
Civil Protection units intervened to provide first aid to seven people suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in the provinces of Tipaza (4 people), Mila (1 person), Saida (1 person), and Blida (1 person). The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. Tragically, a mother and her son, aged 48 and 17 respectively, died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a water heater in an apartment in the 196-unit housing complex in Takserine, Birkhadem municipality. Their bodies were taken to the morgue in El Alia.
Three drowning deaths were recorded in water reservoirs in the provinces of El Bayadh: two 11-year-old children drowned in a reservoir in the area known as El Agla, in the municipality of El Bayadh Sidi Cheikh. In the province of Annaba, a 4-year-old child drowned in a reservoir in the area known as El Qarya El Ishtarkiya, in the municipality of El Eulma, Ain El Berda district. The victims were recovered by Civil Protection divers and transported to local hospitals.
Regarding the severe weather affecting the provinces of M’Sila, Oum El Bouaghi, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Batna, Ouled Djellal, Ouargla, Tebessa, and El Oued, our services rescued 22 people in dangerous situations and removed 9 cars and 3 motorcycles. Unfortunately, 7 deaths were recorded in the provinces of M’Sila, Oum El Bouaghi, and Ouargla. In the province of M’Sila, 5 deaths were recorded, including 2 women aged 62 and 26, and 3 children. 6, 3 and 3 years old were on board a car that was swept away by the waters of Wadi Ain Sebaa on the municipal road of Tamessa municipality, in addition to the state of Oum El Bouaghi: A young man aged 31 died after being swept away by the waters of a wadi in Mchta Reggane, Bir El Chouhada municipality. As for the state of Ouargla: A child aged 4 died as a result of the collapse of an external wall due to strong winds, in the place called El Bour village, Naqoussa municipality. The victims were transferred to hospitals by the Civil Protection services.
