Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 9 and 10, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 9th and 10th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,386 interventions, averaging one intervention every 19 seconds. These included 2,213 medical evacuations and 568 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 228 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 4 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 282 others, with varying degrees of severity. The injured were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection services of Algiers intervened following a fire in an electrical box on the ground floor of a four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the 1000-unit housing complex, Zeralda municipality and district. The fire resulted in 11 people suffering from shortness of breath. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local health center. Our emergency services successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighboring buildings.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,060 interventions, rescuing 747 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 271 people on site. Additionally, 41 people were transferred to local health centers. Two drowning deaths were recorded in the provinces of Chlef and Skikda. In Chlef province, a 19-year-old drowned at El Ghatra beach (a prohibited swimming area) in the municipality of Sidi Abderrahmane, Ténès district. In Skikda province, a 12-year-old drowned at Abdelrahmane beach (also a prohibited swimming area) in the municipality of El Marsa, Ben Azzouz district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of the local hospitals.

Additionally, the Civil Protection services in Biskra intervened to recover the body of a 21-year-old man who drowned in the Al-Quds swimming pool in the municipality and district of El-Kantara. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue at El-Kantara Hospital.

Furthermore, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 42 vegetation fires, including: 12 forest fires, 9 brush fires, 4 scrubland fires, 1 agricultural crop fire, 10 fruit tree fires, 5 hay bale fires, and 1 palm tree fire, across several provinces nationwide. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
