Civil Protection Units intervention results between February 17 and 18, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

During the period from February 17 to 18, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,778 interventions (an average of one intervention every 22 seconds), including 2,505 medical evacuations and 595 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 208 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 8 people at the scene and injuries to 270 others, ranging in severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Chlef: two people died in a collision between a utility vehicle and a truck on the East-West Highway, in the Douaïdia area, Boukadir municipality and district. The victims were taken to the morgue at the local hospital.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to nine people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in the provinces of Naâma (2), Bordj Bou Arreridj (2), Constantine (2), and Sétif (2). The victims were treated at the scene and then transported in stable condition to local healthcare facilities.

For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish 02 urban and different fires in the provinces of Bejaia and Batna. In Bejaia province, our services intervened to extinguish a fire on the ground floor of a residential building consisting of (floor + 1) in the area called “Mellala”, Oued Ghir municipality, Bejaia district, where 05 people who were in a state of shock were treated and then transferred to the local hospital. In Batna province, our services intervened to extinguish a fire in an apartment on the ground floor of a residential building consisting of (floor + 4) in the area called “Belhadi Said neighborhood”, Ain El Assafir municipality, Tazoult district. The fire resulted in injuries to 02 people, who were treated and then transferred to the local hospital. The intervention of our services made it possible to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other neighboring areas.
