Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between October 18 and 19, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between October 18 and October 19, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,716 interventions—averaging one intervention every 23 seconds—following distress calls from citizens across various provinces. These operations spanned the full scope of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, household incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and other emergency security measures.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units conducted 242 interventions across several provinces. These incidents resulted in 6 fatalities at the scenes and left 281 individuals with injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site care before being transported by our teams to local hospitals. The highest casualty toll was recorded in Saïda Province, where 2 people died after their vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree on Provincial Road No. 4, in the municipality and district of El Hassasna. Civil Protection personnel intervened to extinguish three fires—classified as urban, industrial, and miscellaneous—in the provinces of Algiers, Bouira, and Khenchela. One individual sustained superficial burns during a fire that broke out in a car garage located in the “300-Housing Unit” neighborhood in the municipality and district of Kais, Khenchela Province. The victim received initial care on-site before being transported by our teams to a local hospital. Our emergency units successfully brought these fires under control, preventing them from spreading to adjacent areas.

Additionally, during the same period, units tasked with combating forest and agricultural fires responded to 10 separate vegetation fires across various provinces nationwide. These included one fire involving dry grass, five fires affecting fruit-bearing trees, two fires involving hay bales, and two fires involving palm trees. The rapid and effective intervention of our units ensured that these fires were extinguished, preventing them from spreading to the surrounding vegetation. Following the thunderstorms that occurred over the last 24 hours in the provinces of Béchar, Béni Abbès, Naâma, Tlemcen, and Sidi Bel Abbès, our units intervened in the province of Tlemcen to rescue one person trapped in a truck due to rising water levels in a wadi in the municipality of Sidi Djillali. Additionally, one person was rescued after being trapped by floodwaters in the area known as the “Municipal Swimming Pool District” (Hay al-Masbah al-Baladi) in the municipality of Béni Abbès. Furthermore, several operations were carried out to drain accumulated rainwater from public and private facilities across the provinces of Béni Abbès, Béchar, Sidi Bel Abbès, and Naâma.
