Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 23 and 24, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)
Between September 23 and 24, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,094 interventions—averaging one every 27 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.
Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 193 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 7 fatalities at the scene and left 221 others with injuries of varying severity. Victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals. The highest casualty toll was recorded in El Oued Province, where two people were killed after being struck by a vehicle on the Akfadou Forest Road, located in the municipality and district of Debila. Regarding the interventions of the beach lifeguard service over the past 24 hours, Civil Protection lifeguards carried out 62 operations. These efforts resulted in rescuing 23 people from imminent drowning, providing on-site first aid to 37 individuals, and transporting two people to local health centers. Tragically, one drowning fatality was recorded in the sea: a 28-year-old man in Jijel Province at Bouhanach Beach—a rocky area where swimming is prohibited—located in the municipality and district of Jijel. The victim’s body was transferred to the local hospital’s morgue.
Additionally, during the same period, forest and crop fire-fighting units intervened to extinguish 12 vegetation fires across various provinces. These included one scrub fire, three brush fires, one agricultural crop fire, five fruit tree fires, and two hay bale fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
Regarding the heavy rainfall that affected the provinces of Tébessa, Illizi, and Ouled Djellal, Civil Protection personnel intervened to extract a vehicle stranded on National Road No. 54 due to rising water levels in Oued Tenzrouft. They also carried out operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into a home in the town center of Bordj Omar Driss, Illizi Province.
