Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 29 and 30, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

  Between September 29 and 30, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,087 interventions—averaging one intervention every 27 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 206 incidents recorded across the country. These accidents resulted in seven fatalities at the scene and left 238 others with injuries of varying severity; victims received on-site care and were subsequently transported by our teams to local hospitals. Civil Protection units in Annaba Province intervened to extinguish two urban fires. One incident involved a fire in the basement of a three-story building (ground floor plus two upper floors) in the Annaba municipality and district, resulting in one person suffering first-degree burns. The second incident involved a fire inside the elevator of an eleven-story building (ground floor plus ten upper floors) in Berrahal municipality (Chtaibi district), causing three people to suffer from respiratory distress. Victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals; our intervention successfully extinguished both fires and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas.

Regarding beach and recreational area safety operations over the past 24 hours, Civil Protection lifeguards carried out 54 interventions. These efforts resulted in saving nine people from imminent drowning, providing on-site first aid to 44 individuals, and transporting one person to a local hospital, with no drowning fatalities recorded at sea.

Additionally, forest and crop fire suppression units intervened during the same period to extinguish 13 vegetation fires across various provinces. These included one forest fire, one scrub fire, two brush fires, three fruit tree fires, five hay bale fires, and one palm tree fire. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented their spread to surrounding vegetation. Regarding the heavy rainfall experienced in the country’s southern regions—specifically the provinces of Illizi, Djanet, and Tamanrasset—Civil Protection units intervened in Tamanrasset Province to rescue seven people from a vehicle trapped by floodwaters in Wadi Abalessa; they also recovered the body of a 12-year-old boy—previously reported missing—who had been swept away by floodwaters in Wadi Outoul (near the village of Outoul, in the municipality and district of Tamanrasset), with the body subsequently transported to the local hospital’s morgue. Additionally, operations were carried out to pump out accumulated rainwater in the municipalities of Aïn Amguel and Tamanrasset. In Djanet Province, one person was rescued from a vehicle trapped by floodwaters in Wadi Bordj El Haouas, and two cars and a truck were recovered after being trapped by floodwaters in Wadi Tit (municipality and district of Djanet). In Illizi Province, accumulated rainwater was pumped out of the 8th of May neighborhood in the municipality of Illizi.
