Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 8 and 9, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

    

Between August 8th and 9th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,522 interventions, averaging one intervention every 19 seconds. These included 2,100 medical evacuations and 525 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 225 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 6 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 279 others, with varying degrees of severity. The injured were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish seven urban, industrial, and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), Ghardaia (1 fire), Tizi Ouzou (1 fire), Annaba (1 fire), Relizane (1 fire), and Boumerdès (1 fire). These fires resulted in seven people suffering from respiratory distress following a fire that broke out in an apartment on the ground floor of a four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the 490-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Relizane. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,292 interventions, which allowed for the rescue of 966 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 265 people on site, in addition to transferring 61 people to local health centers. Three people drowned in the sea in the provinces of Ain Temouchent (2) and Skikda (1). In the province of Ain Temouchent: the first case involved an 11-year-old child who drowned at the beach called “Rachgoun 2” in the municipality of Oulhassa; the second case involved a 17-year-old teenager who drowned at the beach called “El Bir” in the municipality and district of Beni Saf. In the province of Skikda: the first case involved a 14-year-old child who drowned at the beach called “Zouit 2” (permitted). For swimming (outside of lifeguard hours), in the municipality of Kerkera, district of Tamalous, the bodies of the victims were transferred to local hospitals.

It should be noted that the Civil Protection services of the Wilaya of Bejaia intervened following the drowning death of a 33-year-old man in a swimming pool in the area known as “Aboudaw,” in the municipality of Tala Hamza, district of Tichy, Wilaya of Bejaia. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.

Also, during the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 43 vegetation fires, including: 4 forest fires, 2 scrubland fires, 4 dry grass fires, 1 agricultural crop fire, 9 fruit tree fires, 17 hay bale fires, and 6 palm tree fires, across several wilayas of the country. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
