Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 16 and 18, 2026 (within the last 48 hours)

During the period from April 16 to 18, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,986 interventions, averaging one intervention every 29 seconds. These included 3,978 medical evacuations and 796 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 342 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces. These accidents resulted in 8 deaths at the scene and 394 injuries of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest toll was recorded in the province of Tebessa, with 3 deaths and 2 injuries resulting from 2 traffic accidents.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 20 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across several provinces. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to hospitals in stable condition.
Civil Protection units also responded to two urban fires in the provinces of Medea and Mila. These fires resulted in one person suffering from shock. The first fire occurred in a residence in the Chaib Yaakoub area of the municipality and district of Aziz, Medea province. The victim received on-site treatment and was then transferred to the local clinic. Our services successfully contained both fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Divers from the Civil Protection services of Tizi Ouzou intervened to recover the body of the second missing victim, a 35-year-old woman, who died in the sea at the place called Rock 40, in the municipality of Mezrana and the district of Tigzirt. The victim’s body was transferred to Tigzirt Hospital.
