Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 19 and 20, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from April 14 to 15, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,333 interventions (an average of one intervention every 25 seconds), including 2,214 medical evacuations and 597 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
Civil Protection units responded to a wide range of calls for assistance from citizens across several provinces of the country. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 150 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of two people at the scene and injuries to 192 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious accidents occurred in the provinces of Oum El Bouaghi and Mostaganem. In Oum El Bouaghi, one person died and three others were injured in a collision between two trucks on National Route 100, in the municipality of Ouled Hamla, Ain M’lila district. In Mostaganem, one person died in a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Provincial Route 24, in the area known as Douar Rouaouna, in the municipality of Ben Abdelmalek Ramdane, Sidi Lakhdar district.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 16 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. These incidents were recorded in the following provinces: Constantine (5), Relizane (4), Medea (3), El Bayadh (3), and Naama (1). The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. Meanwhile, in Constantine province, a 24-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a heater in a shack in the area known as Mchta Ayoun Saad, Didouche Mourad municipality, Hamma Bouziane district. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue at the local hospital.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish five urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers, Sidi Bel Abbès, Mila, Tlemcen, and Oran. In Oran province, one fire resulted in six people suffering from respiratory distress in the municipality of Ain El Turk. In Tlemcen province, one fire resulted in four people suffering from respiratory distress in the municipality of Ben Sekrane. In Mila province, one fire resulted in one person sustaining burns in the municipality of Mila. In Sidi Bel Abbès province, one fire resulted in one person suffering from respiratory distress in the municipality of Sidi Bel Abbès. In Algiers province, one fire occurred in the municipality of Algiers Centre, with no casualties reported. Our services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Civil Protection services related to the severe weather affecting several provinces across the country, including Algiers, Blida, Boumerdès, El Tarf, Oum El Bouaghi, and Guelma, our services in El Tarf province rescued one person trapped inside a small truck due to the rising water level of a wadi on Provincial Road 118 in the area known as Mchta El Fahis, Ain El Kerma municipality. They also rescued 40 cows trapped by floodwaters in the Zerrad Houssine neighborhood of Bouhadjar municipality. Furthermore, our services carried out several operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into homes and public and private buildings in the provinces of Algiers, Blida, Boumerdès, Oum El Bouaghi, El Tarf, and Guelma. Additionally, we responded to five separate incidents related to landslides in Algiers province: a landslide that buried two cars in the El Akbi neighborhood of Ain Naadja El Qadima, Jisr Constantine municipality; a partial collapse of a balcony wall in the El Manzar El Jamil neighborhood of Ain Benian municipality; a partial collapse of a tin house due to soil erosion; and the collapse of a tiled roof of a residential building. At 145 Prince Abdelkader Street in the municipality of Bologhine, without any human casualties were recorded. In the same context, also in the state of Oum El Bouaghi: a light roof made of iron sheets collapsed in the Laferkole neighborhood in the municipality of Oum El Bouaghi, without any human casualties were recorded.
