Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 21 and 22, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

During the period from April 21 to 22, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,541 interventions (an average of one intervention every 24 seconds), including 2,508 medical evacuations and 525 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 188 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 8 deaths at the scene and injuries to 233 others of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to six people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in Skikda (4 people), Bouira (1 person), and Tlemcen (1 person). The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. It should be noted that one person, a 70-year-old man, died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a stove in his home in the Taferent area of the municipality and district of Khenchela province. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to six people suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers (two fires) and Mostaganem (one fire). These fires resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to one person from burns. The first fire broke out in a garage in the area known as El Merdja El Qadima, in the municipality and district of Rouiba, Algiers Province. Additionally, six people suffered from shortness of breath following a fire in an apartment on the third floor of a four-story building (ground floor + four floors) located in the 100-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Ain Nouissy, Mostaganem Province. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local health centers.
Furthermore, Civil Protection divers in Tlemcen Province recovered the bodies of two children, aged 13 and 16, who had drowned in a pool of water in the area known as Boujlida, in the municipality and district of Beni Snous. The bodies were transported to the morgue of the local hospital.
