Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 15 and 16, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

Between August 15th and 16th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,226 interventions (an average of one intervention every 20 seconds), including 2,045 medical evacuations and 472 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 215 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 13 deaths at the scene and injuries to 285 others of varying severity. The heaviest toll was recorded in Naâma province, with 6 deaths and 48 injuries in two separate accidents. Both accidents involved passenger buses veering off the road and overturning. The first accident occurred on National Route 47 in the municipality and district of Aïn Sefra, resulting in 17 injuries. The second accident occurred on National Route 6, also in the municipality and district of Aïn Sefra, resulting in 6 deaths and injuries to 31 others. The victims received on-site medical attention and were quickly transported by our services to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish 3 urban fires, 2 in the province of Algiers, where our services intervened following a fire inside offices on the first floor of the Directorate of Water Resources and Irrigation in a building consisting of (ground floor + 3 floors) in the municipality and district of El Harrach. 3 people who were trapped on the roof of the building were rescued. Our services also intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out inside a room of a house in the place called the road to the municipal stadium, Khaled Rakiq, in the municipality of Maalma, district of Zeralda – 1 in the province of Jijel, where our services intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out inside an apartment in a building consisting of (ground floor + 2 floors) in the place called El Hadjars, municipality of Sidi Abdelaziz, district of Chekfa, without any casualties being recorded. Our emergency services’ intervention made it possible to control these fires and prevent their spread to other neighboring places.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, our services recorded 1,169 interventions, which resulted in the rescue of 841 people from imminent drowning, as well as the provision of first aid to 280 people on site. Additionally, 47 people were transferred to local health centers. Two people drowned in the sea and water reservoirs in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou and Blida. In Tizi Ouzou province, a 19-year-old drowned at the beach known as Loubar (a prohibited swimming area), in the municipality and district of Tigzirt. In Blida province, a 50-year-old drowned in an irrigation basin in the area known as Houch El Marikan, in the municipality and district of Oued El Alleug. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of the local hospitals.

Similarly, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 23 vegetation fires, including: 3 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 2 scrubland fires, 2 crop fires, 3 fruit tree fires, 7 hay bale fires, and 3 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.

Regarding the Civil Protection services’ interventions related to the severe weather affecting the provinces of Constantine, Guelma, Tebessa, Tamanrasset, and Khenchela, our teams carried out several operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into homes, neighborhoods, and public institutions. They also freed three vehicles stranded in the middle of the road due to flooding in Tebessa province. In Tamanrasset province, our teams rescued five people trapped in their vehicle due to flooding in the Tiglaline and Amellaoulaoun wadis in the municipality of Tamanrasset, and the Azarzou wadi in the municipality of Ain Amguel. It should be noted that no casualties were reported.
