Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 16 and 17, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

   

     During the period from August 16th to 17th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,627 interventions, averaging one intervention every 18 seconds. These included 2,277 medical evacuations and 599 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 197 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 4 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 262 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals.

Civil Protection services in Oran intervened to rescue and transport six people to El Karma Hospital. They were suffering from respiratory distress due to carbon monoxide (CO) inhalation from a water heater inside a residence in the “127 Housing Units” neighborhood, El Karma municipality, Senia district.

The incident occurred in the “127 Housing Units” neighborhood in El Karma municipality, Senia district. For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish two urban fires, one in Mostaganem Province and the other in Blida Province. In Mostaganem, our services extinguished a fire in electrical meters within a five-story residential building (ground floor + 5 floors) in the 600-unit housing complex in the municipality of Stidia, Hassi Mamache District. This fire resulted in four people suffering from shortness of breath, who were treated at the scene and then transported to the local hospital. In Blida Province, our services intervened to extinguish a fire in a first-floor apartment of a five-story building (ground floor + 5 floors) in the 140-unit housing complex in the municipality of Bouarfa, Blida District. This fire resulted in five people suffering from shortness of breath, who were treated at the scene and then transported to the local hospital. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, it carried out 1,214 interventions, enabling the rescue of 929 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 258 people on site, in addition to transferring 27 people to local health centers. No drowning deaths were recorded at sea during the same period.

Similarly, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 27 vegetation fires, including: 4 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 5 scrubland fires, 6 fruit tree fires, 7 hay bale fires, and 2 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed these fires to be extinguished and prevented from spreading to other vegetation.
