Civil Protection Units intervention results between February 15 and 16, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

During the period from February 15 to 16, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,511 interventions (an average of one intervention every 24 seconds), including 2,596 medical evacuations and 539 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, weather-related incidents, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 162 incidents across several provinces nationwide. These accidents resulted in 5 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 158 others, ranging in severity. The victims received initial treatment at the scene and were then transported by our services to local health centers. The most serious incident occurred in Ain Defla province, where 4 people died in a collision between a truck and a car on National Route 4, in the area known as Wadi Harar, in the municipality of El Hassania, Boumedfaa district.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to two individuals suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty heater in their home in Batna province. The victims received initial treatment at the scene and were then transported to the local health center.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish seven urban and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), Blida (1 fire), Setif (1 fire), Annaba (1 fire), Skikda (1 fire), and Medea (1 fire). These fires resulted in one person suffering from shortness of breath in Blida, one person with first-degree burns in Setif, three people with breathing difficulties in Annaba, and one person with second-degree burns in Skikda. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local hospitals. Our intervention enabled us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Civil Protection services in Mila province intervened following a gas explosion and subsequent fire in a ground-floor apartment of a two-story building (floor + 1) located in the Khalif Essedik neighborhood, in the municipality and district of Tadjenanet. Four people sustained burns of varying degrees, and six others suffered from respiratory distress. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital.
Regarding the Civil Protection interventions related to the severe weather, particularly the strong winds that affected nine provinces in the last 24 hours, including Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Skikda, El Bayadh, Mila, Souk Ahras, Oran, and El Tarf, our services carried out several interventions to address 11 different incidents. These included six interventions for fallen trees, one for a fallen power pole, and four for collapsed exterior walls, building roofs, and cracks in walls. One person sustained a shoulder injury in Oran province and received necessary first aid before being transferred to the local clinic. Civil Protection services also conducted several rescue operations for people in dangerous situations due to rainfall in Bouira, Bejaia, Souk Ahras, El Tarf, and Skikda provinces. In Bouira province, two people trapped in the snow inside the Ain El Oukrif caves were rescued in good condition in the municipality of El Asnam. A vehicle was also recovered. Two people trapped in the snow in the place called Ain Zoubda, Aghbalou municipality, in the state of Bejaia: A car with one person on board was removed after being stuck due to the accumulation of rainwater in Amizour municipality, in the state of Souk Ahras: Two people were injured in two cars as a result of strong winds in Ouled Driss municipality, in the state of Skikda: A truck with one person on board was removed after being stuck due to seawater that flooded the road due to the strong waves on the seafront in Skikda municipality, as well as carrying out 4 operations to pump rainwater in the states of Bejaia and El Tarf.
