Civil Protection Units intervention results between February 21 and 22, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

 

    

During the period from February 21st to 22nd, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,206 interventions, averaging one intervention every 39 seconds. These included 1,600 medical evacuations and 285 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 176 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 9 people at the scene and injuries to 194 others, ranging in severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest tolls were recorded in the provinces of Oran and Chlef. In Oran province, two women died and three others sustained various injuries following a collision between a car and a truck on National Road 11, in the municipality and district of Bethioua. In Chlef province, two people died and one other sustained various injuries following a collision between a car and a truck on National Road 19, in the municipality of Sendjas, Chlef district.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 16 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in Constantine (4 people), Naâma (3 people), Sétif (3 people), Algiers (3 people), Tlemcen (2 people), and Chlef (1 person). The victims were treated at the scene and then transported to local health centers.

In addition, Civil Protection services in Sétif intervened following a gas explosion on the ground floor of a two-story building (ground floor + 2 floors) located in the Houifi Abdallah neighborhood of El Eulma. One woman sustained second-degree burns and was treated at the scene before being transferred to the local hospital.
