Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 22 and 24, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)
Between January 22nd and 24th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 6,199 interventions, averaging one intervention every 27 seconds. These included 4,026 medical evacuations and 1,067 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 251 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 9 people at the scene and injuries to 285 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Oran, where 1 person died and 6 others were injured in a collision between a car and a passenger bus on National Road 13 in the municipality of Hassi Mefsoukh, district of Quedil.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 60 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across several provinces. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals. Six deaths were recorded in Skikda and Tipaza provinces due to CO poisoning. In Skikda, five people, aged between 13 and 73, died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a heater in a home in the Mohamed Zibouch neighborhood of Ain Bouziane municipality, Sidi Mezghiche district. In Tipaza, one person, aged 56, died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a water heater in a home in the El Katiba El Amaria neighborhood of Bou Ismail municipality and district.
The incidents occurred in the province of Bou Ismail. In addition, the Civil Protection services of the Wilaya of Relizane intervened to recover the body of a 57-year-old man found deceased on the bank of the Mina River in the area known as “El Jisr El Zera’iya” (Agricultural Bridge), in the municipality and district of Relizane.
Our services also intervened to extinguish six urban fires in the Wilayas of Skikda (one fire), Annaba (one fire), Algiers (two fires), El Tarf (one fire), and M’Sila (one fire). In the Wilaya of M’Sila, one person died and was transported to the morgue at Boussaâda Hospital following a fire that broke out in a room of a house in the village of Bir Essedik, in the municipality and district of Sidi Brahim.
The deceased was taken to the morgue at Boussaâda Hospital. Also, two explosion incidents were recorded, in the province of Ain Defla: where our ambulances intervened to rescue 03 people who were injured by burns as a result of a gas cylinder explosion in a car followed by a fire, and this was inside a warehouse on the ground floor of a building consisting of (floor + 1) in the “El Kebir” neighborhood, Sidi Lakhdar municipality, Khemis Miliana district, and in the province of Algiers, our services intervened to rescue and evacuate 01 person who was injured by burns as a result of a butane gas cylinder explosion inside a warehouse on the ground floor of a building consisting of (floor + 6) in the Al Amal cooperative, Bouzareah municipality and district. The victims were taken care of by our services on site and transferred to local hospitals. The rapid interventions of our services made it possible to extinguish the fires and control them and prevent them from spreading to neighboring spaces.
