Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 24 and 25, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

 

During the period from January 24 to 25, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,006 interventions (an average of one intervention every 28 seconds), including 1,878 medical evacuations and 460 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 143 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of two people at the scene and injuries to 188 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in El Oued province, where one person died and five others were injured in a collision between a car and a passenger bus on the Taksebt heavy vehicle road, in the municipality and district of El Oued.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 24 people who suffocated as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from heating appliances and water heaters inside their homes across several provinces of the country. The victims were treated at the scene of the incidents, then transferred to local hospitals. Meanwhile, 4 deaths were recorded, poisoned by inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas in the provinces of Djelfa and Algiers. In the province of Djelfa: (2) people, aged 22 and 32, died from carbon monoxide gas emitted from a wood stove inside a house in the area called “Sersou” in the municipality of Benhar, Birine district. As for the province of Algiers: (2) people, aged 36 and 65, died as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from a heater inside a residence in the El Anasser neighborhood, Diar El Afia, Kouba municipality and Hussein Dey district. In addition, the Civil Protection services of Medea province intervened following a butane gas leak and subsequent explosion in a ground-floor house in Belghouati, Bougzoul municipality, Chebounia district. The incident resulted in the deaths of two women, aged 50 and 90, and a six-year-old girl. Four other people sustained burns of varying degrees and were transported to Ksar El Boukhari Hospital and the local polyclinic.
Regarding the Civil Protection interventions related to the weather fluctuations during the last 24 hours, which affected several provinces including: Algiers, Tiaret, Chlef, Bordj Bou Arreridj, El Tarf, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Blida, Mascara, Relizane, Khenchela, Ain Temouchent and M’Sila, our services carried out several operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into homes and shops, as well as across roads in the provinces of: Relizane, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Tiaret and El Tarf. Meanwhile, the Civil Protection services in the province of Khenchela extracted a car stuck in the mud in the place called Douar Salehi in the municipality of El Hamma. Also in the province of Chlef, the body of a deceased man aged 41 was recovered, which was found in Oued Amraoua, in the municipality of Sidi Akkacha. The Civil Protection services in the province of Algiers also intervened after a tree fell on a car in the municipality of Cheraga. As for the province of M’Sila: a partial collapse of the floor of a room in a house in the center of the city of Ouled Ibrahim.
