Civil Protection Units intervention results between June 18 and 20, 2026 (in the last 48 hours)

Between June 18 and 20, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 7,594 interventions, averaging one intervention every 22 seconds. These included 3,867 medical evacuations and 1,298 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 447 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 24 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 568 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals.
For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish six urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers, Boumerdès, Constantine, Sidi Bel Abbès, M’Sila, and Tizi Ouzou. These fires resulted in injuries to three people, including burns, in a fire that broke out in a ground-floor residence in the “Si Abdelkrim” neighborhood of the municipality and district of Slissen in the province of Sidi Bel Abbès. Two people also sustained burns in a fire that broke out in a first-floor residence of a two-story building in the “Chouarbia” neighborhood of the municipality and district of Khemis El Khechna in the province of Boumerdès. Additionally, one woman suffered from shortness of breath due to a fire involving electrical meters on the ground floor of a building in the “El Quds” neighborhood of the municipality and district of Boussaâda in the province of M’Sila. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local health centers. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 48 hours, they carried out 1,122 interventions, which resulted in the rescue of 738 people from imminent drowning, the provision of first aid to 308 people on site, and the transfer of 72 people to local health centers. Two (2) people drowned at sea off the beaches of Annaba and Boumerdès provinces. In Annaba province, the deceased was a 22-year-old man who drowned in the rocky area known as “Qattara” (a prohibited swimming area). In Boumerdès province, the deceased was a 49-year-old man who drowned at the beach known as “Al-Jawhara” (a red flag beach). The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of the local hospitals.
For the record, one drowning death was recorded in a body of water in the province of Tlemcen. The victim was a 12-year-old child, whose body was recovered from a location called “Oued El Fahs,” in the municipality and district of Beni Snous. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.
Also, during the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 122 vegetation fires, including: 4 forest fires, 3 scrubland fires, 13 dry grass fires, 63 agricultural crop fires, 12 fruit tree fires, 22 hay bale fires, and 5 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
Regarding our intervention in the thunderstorms that hit the provinces of Tebessa and Guelma during the same period, our services carried out 6 operations to absorb rainwater that had leaked into homes in the municipality of Tebessa (3 operations) and the municipality of Ain Regada (3 operations) in the province of Guelma, without any human casualties being recorded.
