Civil Protection Units intervention results between March 22 and 23, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

 

    

Between March 22nd and 23rd, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,388 interventions (an average of one intervention every 36 seconds), including 1,782 medical evacuations and 330 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 196 incidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 9 fatalities at the scene and 270 injuries of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Saïda province, where 2 people died and 2 others were injured in a collision between a car and a passenger bus on National Route 92, in the municipality and district of Youb.

It should be noted that the traffic accident toll recorded by Civil Protection units during the Eid al-Fitr holiday was as follows:

– On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, 10 people died at the scene and 348 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

– On the second day of Eid al-Fitr, 3 people died at the scene and 381 others sustained injuries of varying severity. On the third day of Eid al-Fitr, nine (9) people died at the scene of accidents, and 270 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

The final toll of road accidents recorded by the Civil Protection units during the three days of Eid al-Fitr is: twenty-two (22) deaths at the scene and nine hundred and ninety-nine (999) injuries of varying severity.

Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to sixteen (16) people suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhaling gas emitted from heating appliances in their homes. Nine (9) people were treated in Bordj Bou Arreridj and seven (7) in Setif. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred in stable condition to local hospitals.
