Civil Protection Units intervention results between May 17 and 18, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

During the period from May 17 to 18, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,721 interventions, averaging one intervention every 31 seconds. These included 1,914 medical evacuations and 403 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 189 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 4 deaths at the scene and 214 injuries of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest toll was recorded in the province of Setif, with 1 death and 10 injuries resulting from 10 interventions related to traffic accidents.
In addition to the intervention of the Civil Protection services in Oran following the death of two people (a man and a woman) who were poisoned by inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) emitted from a water heater inside a residence in the Merval neighborhood, Oran municipality and district, their bodies were transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.
Similarly, divers from the Civil Protection services in Annaba intervened to recover the bodies of two victims (a 19-year-old teenager and a 13-year-old child) who drowned in a river in the area known as El Merdja, in the municipality of Oued El Aneb. The victims’ bodies were transferred to Draa Errich Hospital.
The Civil Protection services in Oran also intervened following the fall of a freight elevator from the thirteenth floor of a building under construction. The accident resulted in the death of two people (workers) in the area known as Travarsa, in the Sidi Chami neighborhood, Oran municipality and district. The victims’ bodies were transferred to November 1st Hospital.
