Under the supervision of the Director General of Civil Protection, the National Training and Intervention Unit for Civil Protection hosts the activities celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the launch of the European Union Centers of Excellence Initiative, and the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Regional Office for North Africa and the Sahel in Algiers

Under the supervision of the Director General of Civil Protection, and in the presence of central officials, the Director General of Multilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Delegate for Major Risks, and representatives from the Ministries of the Interior, Local Authorities, Urban Planning, and Transport, the National Training and Intervention Unit of the Civil Protection hosted the celebrations marking the fifteenth anniversary of the launch of the European Union’s Centers of Excellence initiative for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) risk prevention, and the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Regional Office for North Africa and the Sahel in Algiers.

This event served as an important platform to review and assess the progress of regional and international cooperation in the field of CBRN risk prevention, as well as to strengthen coordination, exchange expertise, and build capacity, thereby contributing to enhancing national preparedness to confront various complex threats and crises.

The leading role played by Algeria, represented by the Algerian Civil Protection, was also highlighted. This role was demonstrated through its ten-year tenure managing the Regional Office for North Africa and the Sahel, before its responsibilities were transferred to the National Delegation for Major Risks. These efforts contributed to supporting training programs, developing emergency plans, organizing exercises and simulations, and strengthening intervention and coordination capabilities among various stakeholders.

The event was attended by ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the European Union and the EU Delegation to Algeria, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), UN agencies in Algeria, the African Union, the Commissioner of the Atomic Energy Agency, regional experts, the Director of the Regional Office for North Africa and the Sahel, national focal points of partner countries, and representatives of military, security, and national institutions.

Continuing the celebrations marking the 15th anniversary of the launch of the European Union’s Centers of Excellence initiative and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Regional Office for North Africa and the Sahel in Algiers,

On the sidelines of these events, the official delegation visited the various operational units and departments of the Civil Protection. They were briefed on the modern equipment and resources deployed for responding to various types of hazards, particularly chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Technical explanations were provided regarding the tasks of specialized teams, intervention methods, detection and protection equipment, and the operational coordination mechanisms used in managing major crises.

The program also included a field exercise simulating an intervention scenario related to CBRN hazards. The various intervention teams demonstrated a high level of readiness and professionalism in carrying out rescue, decontamination, evacuation, and field coordination operations, in accordance with internationally recognized standards in this field.
