Civil Protection Units intervention results between May 19 and 20, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

  

  Between May 19 and 20, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,190 interventions (an average of one intervention every 27 seconds), including 2,005 medical evacuations and 418 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 178 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 6 people at the scene and injuries to 206 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most fatal accidents were recorded in the following locations: Annaba Province, with 1 death and 3 injuries following a collision between two vehicles in the area known as Oued El Dahab, Annaba Municipality and District; Ain Defla Province, with 1 death resulting from a truck overturning and veering off the road on the East-West Highway; Ain Lechiakh Municipality and District; El Bayadh Province, with 1 death resulting from a collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle on National Route 47; Chlala Municipality and District; and Sidi Bel Abbes Province, with 1 death resulting from a collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle on National Route 13, Taghalimt Municipality, Telagh District. In Touggourt, one person died following a collision between a truck and a motorcycle on National Route 3, in the municipality of Bled Omar, Tamacine District, Tamanrasset Province. In a separate incident, one person died and another was injured in a collision between a car and a motorcycle on National Route 1, in the municipality and district of Tamanrasset.

In addition, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires: two in Constantine Province and one in Adrar Province. No casualties were reported. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

The Civil Protection of the state of Bordj Bou Arreridj also intervened following a city gas explosion inside an apartment located on the third floor of a building consisting of (T+04) in the 160 housing complex, municipality and district of Bordj Bou Arreridj. This incident caused injuries to 5 people, who were treated on site and then transferred to the local hospital by the Civil Protection.
