Between October 13 and 14, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,203 interventions—averaging one every 26 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations spanned the full range of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security-related operations. Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 187 interventions following numerous incidents across the country’s provinces. These accidents resulted in 12 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 250 others, ranging from minor to severe; victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals. The highest casualty tolls were recorded in the provinces of Bouira and Tamanrasset. In Bouira, four people died and four others sustained various injuries following a collision between two vehicles on National Road No. 8 in the Bir Ghbalou municipality and district. In Tamanrasset, four people died and 16 others were injured after a vehicle veered off the road and overturned in the area known as “Moulay Lahcen Village,” in the Aïn Amguel municipality.
Additionally, Civil Protection personnel intervened to extinguish two fires in the provinces of Algiers and Béjaïa. These fires caused respiratory distress in four individuals and various injuries to another; the incidents involved fires at chalet-style structures in the “Al-Malha” area (Djasr Kasentina municipality, Algiers province) and elsewhere. Victims received on-site care before being transported to local hospitals. Our emergency teams successfully brought both fires under control and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas.
During the same period, forest and agricultural fire-fighting units also intervened to extinguish six fires involving vegetation, including one forest fire and one fire involving trees. Across several provinces nationwide, there were incidents involving one hay-bale fire and three palm tree fires; notably, the rapid and effective intervention of our teams enabled these fires to be extinguished and prevented them from spreading to the surrounding vegetation.
