Between October 4 and 5, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,333 interventions—averaging one every 28 seconds—across various provinces following distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, security-related incidents, and weather-related emergencies.
Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 185 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in three fatalities at the scene and injuries to 194 others, with varying degrees of severity; victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals.
Civil Protection personnel also intervened to extinguish three urban fires: two in the province of Algiers and one in the province of Oran. Two people sustained burns during a fire at a service station in the Emir Abdelkader neighborhood (Oran municipality and district); the victims were treated on-site and subsequently taken to the local hospital. Our emergency teams successfully brought these fires under control and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas. Separately, Civil Protection units in Algiers Province intervened to provide first aid to nine people suffering from breathing difficulties due to carbon monoxide (CO) inhalation caused by a water heater inside a home in the El Madania municipality (Sidi M’Hamed district). The victims received on-site care before being transported to the local hospital in stable condition. During the same period, forest and crop firefighting teams responded to 26 vegetation fires across various provinces, including two forest fires, one scrub fire, 14 brush fires, two fruit tree fires, three hay bale fires, and four palm tree fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
Regarding the heavy rainfall experienced over the past 24 hours in the provinces of Tamanrasset, Illizi, Souk Ahras, and Tébessa, Civil Protection personnel in Tébessa Province intervened to rescue a person who had fallen into a storm drain in the El Baala neighborhood. They also recovered two vehicles stranded due to rainwater accumulation in the El Zaouia neighborhood and carried out 13 operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into homes within the Tébessa municipality.
