Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 13 and 14, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)
Between September 13 and 14, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 3,105 interventions—averaging one intervention every 27 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.
Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 187 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 12 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 233 others, with wounds ranging from minor to severe. Victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals. The highest casualty toll was recorded in the province of Mascara, where two traffic accidents resulted in five deaths and one injury.
Civil Protection teams also intervened to extinguish three urban fires—two in Algiers and one in Tizi Ouzou. One fatality occurred—a woman who died in a residential fire in the “416-Housing Unit” neighborhood in Ouled Fayet (Cheraga District); the victim’s body was transported to the local hospital. Regarding beach and recreational area lifeguard operations over the past 24 hours, lifeguards carried out 300 interventions, saving 197 people from imminent drowning and providing on-site first aid to 98 individuals; five people were transferred to local health centers. One fatality was recorded following a drowning incident at Messida Beach (a designated swimming area where the red flag was raised) in the municipality of Souarekh, El Kala District; the victim’s body was transferred to the local hospital.
Additionally, Civil Protection divers from Chlef Province recovered the body of a 17-year-old teenager who had drowned in a water pond at a location known as Houch El-Ghaba, in the municipality and district of Ouled Fares; the victim was transferred to the local hospital’s morgue.
It is also worth noting that, during the same period, forest and crop fire-fighting units intervened to extinguish seven vegetation fires—comprising two fires involving fruit trees and five involving hay bales—across various provinces nationwide. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
