Civil Protection Units’ intervention results between September 17 and 19, 2026 (in the last 48 hours)

  Between September 17 and 19, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 6,020 interventions—averaging one every 28 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 464 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 11 fatalities at the scene and left 630 others with injuries of varying severity; victims received on-site care and were transported by our teams to local hospitals.

Civil Protection teams also intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of M’Sila, Saïda, Annaba, and Bouira. These fires caused respiratory distress to two people in M’Sila, three in Saïda, and one in Annaba; the victims received necessary first aid and were transported to local health facilities. Our teams successfully brought the fires under control and prevented them from spreading to adjacent areas. Regarding the interventions of the beach and recreation area lifeguard units over the past 48 hours, the service carried out 505 interventions. These efforts resulted in rescuing 363 people from imminent drowning, providing on-site first aid to 129 individuals, and transferring 11 people to local health centers. Additionally, three drowning fatalities were recorded at sea: two in the province of Oran and one in the province of Algiers. In Oran, two individuals—aged approximately 20 and 25—drowned at a location known as “Lamdrak” (a rocky area where swimming is prohibited) in the municipality and district of Aïn El Turck. In Algiers, one person drowned at “Ardis” beach (where swimming is prohibited) in the municipality of Mohammadia, district of Dar El Beïda. The victims’ bodies were transferred to the morgues of local health centers.

Separately, two drowning deaths were recorded in bodies of water in the provinces of Blida and Tamanrasset. In Blida, an 8-year-old child drowned in a body of water in the “El Khemis” area, municipality and district of Bougara. In Tamanrasset, a 10-year-old child drowned in the swimming pool of the Tahagart Youth Hostel, municipality and district of Tamanrasset. The victims were transferred to local hospitals. During the same period, forest and crop firefighting units intervened to extinguish 13 vegetation fires across various provinces. These included one forest fire, two bushfires, two scrub fires, one crop fire, one fruit tree fire, two hay bale fires, and four palm tree fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation. Regarding the heavy thunderstorms that affected the provinces of Tissemsilt, Aïn Defla, Médéa, Saïda, Relizane, Tizi Ouzou, Mila, Béjaïa, Guelma, and Tipaza, our teams intervened to rescue 12 people from two passenger vehicles on National Road 94 (near the village of Tifrit El Kadima, Aïn Soltane municipality, Saïda province). They also rescued a young girl swept away by rainwater runoff in the industrial zone of Aïn Defla municipality, and a family trapped in their car by floodwaters in the Aïn El Beida neighborhood of Aïn Defla municipality. Additionally, a victim suffering from shock was treated and evacuated in Aïn Tarek municipality, Relizane province. Regarding structural collapses, our teams responded to the partial collapse of a retaining wall (approximately 5 meters long) in Douaouda municipality, Tipaza province, with no casualties reported. In Mila province, a partial exterior collapse of a detached house occurred in the Fardoua neighborhood of Sidi Marouane municipality, also without casualties. Furthermore, numerous rainwater drainage operations were carried out across the provinces of Tissemsilt, Médéa, Saïda, Relizane, Béjaïa, Guelma, Tipaza, and Aïn Defla.
