Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 19 and 20, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

   Between September 19 and 20, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 2,840 interventions—averaging one every 29 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 161 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in five fatalities at the scene and injuries to 201 other individuals, with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Victims received on-site care and were subsequently transported by Civil Protection teams to local hospitals.

Civil Protection units also intervened to extinguish five urban fires in the provinces of Bouira, Tipaza, Skikda, Oran, and Ouargla. One of these incidents—a fire in a ground-floor home in the village of Bamendil (Ouargla Municipality and District)—resulted in the death of a three-year-old child; the victim’s body was transferred to the morgue at Mohamed Boudiaf Hospital. Regarding the interventions of the beach lifeguard service over the past 24 hours, the unit carried out 220 operations. These efforts resulted in rescuing 142 people from imminent drowning and providing on-site first aid to 73 individuals, while five people were transferred to local health centers. Tragically, the drowning death of a 10-year-old child was recorded at “Al-Kabir” Beach (outside of duty hours) in the municipality of Mersa El Hadjadj, Betioua District, Oran Province; the victim’s body was transferred to the local health center’s morgue.

Additionally, during the same period, forest and crop fire suppression units intervened to extinguish four vegetation fires—comprising one brush fire and three hay-bale fires—across various provinces nationwide. Notably, the rapid and effective response of our teams succeeded in extinguishing these fires and preventing them from spreading to surrounding vegetation. Regarding the heavy thunderstorms that affected the provinces of Tébessa, Sidi Bel Abbès, Khenchela, Tlemcen, and Naâma, our teams intervened as follows: In Tébessa province, they recovered the body of a person who died after a landslide caused a tractor to overturn on the roadside—due to rain and mud—at a location known as “Sariq Al-Raq” in Bir El Ater municipality; they also rescued two people trapped in a vehicle on the Chrea road in Bir El Ater municipality due to accumulated rainwater. Within Tébessa municipality, they rescued a person trapped in floodwaters in the “Al-Marja” neighborhood (the individual was found in good condition) and extracted a bus stuck on the roadside due to accumulated rainwater in “El Kouif,” where five passengers suffering from shock were transported to the local hospital and found to be in good condition; additionally, two vehicles were freed from accumulated rainwater on the Boulhalef-El Dair road. In Sidi Bel Abbès province, a truck was freed from accumulated rainwater on National Road No. 109 in Marhoum municipality, and a vehicle was removed from National Road No. 104 due to the rising water level of the Marhoum wadi in Bir El Hammam municipality. Furthermore, multiple operations were carried out to pump out accumulated rainwater across the provinces of Tébessa, Sidi Bel Abbès, Khenchela, Tlemcen, and Naâma.
