Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between 01 and 03 January 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

During the period from January 1st to 3rd, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,205 interventions (an average of one intervention every 33 seconds), including 3,539 medical evacuations and 334 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 323 incidents across several provinces nationwide. These accidents resulted in 7 fatalities at the scene and 416 injuries of varying severity. Victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Batna province, where 2 women died and 3 others were injured in a hit-and-run accident in the Chafat neighborhood of Ain Touta municipality and district.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 49 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across the provinces of Ain Defla, Algiers, Laghouat, Tlemcen, Saida, Medea, and Constantine. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported in stable condition to local hospitals. Meanwhile, 3 people died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide poisoning incidents have been reported in the provinces of Skikda, Mila, and Constantine. In Skikda province, a 30-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a faulty cooking stove (tabouna) in his home in the 20 August neighborhood of Beni Bechir municipality, Ramdane Djamel district. In Mila province, a 38-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a faulty cooking stove (tabouna) in his home in the Setatra neighborhood of Mila municipality, Mila district. In Constantine province, a 59-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a faulty heater in an apartment in the Messinissa neighborhood of El Khroub municipality, Constantine district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish seven urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers (two fires), Djelfa, Timimoun, Batna, Boumerdès, and Blida. These fires resulted in injuries to six people. In Batna, four people suffered from shortness of breath due to smoke inhalation after a fire broke out on the ground floor of a two-story building in the Nasr neighborhood of Batna. In Djelfa, two people sustained burns after a fire, followed by the explosion of gasoline canisters, broke out in the kitchen of a house in the center of Sed Rahal, Messaad district. The victims received first aid at the scene and were then transported to local health centers.
It should be noted that the Civil Protection services of the state of Algiers intervened in response to a city gas leak incident followed by an explosion on the first floor of a residential building consisting of 1st floor + 3 floors in the area called Houch Youssef, municipality and district of Draria, where the incident resulted in the injury of 02 people with second-degree burns. They were given first aid at the scene, and then transferred to the burns hospital in Zeralda.
