Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between 04 and 05 January 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 4th to 5th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,029 interventions (an average of one intervention every 28 seconds), including 2,340 medical evacuations and 414 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 186 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 4 people at the scene and injuries to 189 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Adrar province, where 1 person died and 3 others sustained various injuries following a car accident on National Route 52, in the municipality of Tit, Aouf district.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to six people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. Five of these cases were in Tizi Ouzou province, and one in Bordj Bou Arreridj province. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. Three deaths were also recorded in Bordj Bou Arreridj and Djelfa provinces. In Bordj Bou Arreridj province, two people (a 71-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man) died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a heater in a house in the village of Ahanzal, El Kala municipality, Djafra district. In Djelfa province, a 27-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a wood-burning stove in a residence in the Mtairiha neighborhood, El Idrissia municipality and district. The victims’ bodies were taken to the morgues of local hospitals.
It should be noted that Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers (1 fire), Tizi Ouzou (1 fire), Skikda (1 fire), and Batna (1 fire), without any casualties. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
