The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 21 and 22, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

     During the period from July 21st to 22nd, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,160 interventions, averaging one intervention every 16 seconds. These included 2,400 medical evacuations and 981 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 209 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 3 fatalities at the scene and 252 injuries of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish five separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers (2 fires), Constantine (2 fires), and Bejaia (1 fire). These fires resulted in injuries to two people and respiratory distress to eight others. The first fire occurred in an apartment on the first floor of a five-story building in the 17 October 1962 neighborhood, Constantine Bridge municipality, Algiers province. Additionally, six people suffered respiratory distress from a fire in a shoe warehouse on the ground floor of a three-story building in the Sidi Abed neighborhood, Tessala El Merdja municipality, Bir Touta district, Algiers province. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local hospitals. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, 888 interventions were carried out, resulting in the rescue of 543 people from imminent drowning, the provision of first aid to 284 people on site, and the transfer of 60 people to local health centers. Four drowning deaths were recorded: in the province of Ain Chlef, the death of an 18-year-old at Beni Haoua beach (a designated swimming area outside of lifeguard hours), in the municipality and district of Beni Haoua; and in the province of Ain Temouchent, the death of a 33-year-old at Bouzedjar beach, in the municipality of Bouzedjar, district of El Amria. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals by Civil Protection personnel.

Additionally, one drowning death was recorded at an irrigation basin in the neighborhood of Ifri, in the municipality and district of Djanet. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of the local hospital.

Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Crops Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 195 vegetation fires, including: 67 forest fires, 5 bush and scrub fires, 45 dry grass fires, 19 agricultural crop fires, 29 fruit tree fires, 23 hay bale fires, and 7 palm tree fires, across several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to the rest of the vegetation.
