The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 23 and 25, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

   Between July 23 and 25, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 10,815 interventions, averaging one intervention every 16 seconds. These included 4,790 medical evacuations and 1,347 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 439 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 9 fatalities at the scene and 551 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish 8 urban, industrial, and other fires in the following provinces: Boumerdès (2 fires), Algiers (1 fire), Béjaïa (1 fire), Aïn Témouchent (1 fire), Bouira (1 fire), Ouargla (1 fire), and Aïn Guezzam (1 fire). The most serious fire occurred in the province of Aïn Témouchent, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to six people suffering from respiratory distress. The fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of a four-story building (ground floor + 4 floors) in the 315-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Aïn Témouchent. First aid was administered at the scene, and the injured were then transferred to the hospital.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 48 hours, they carried out 3,040 interventions, which resulted in the rescue of 2,080 people from imminent drowning, as well as the provision of first aid to 751 people on site. Additionally, 170 people were transferred to local health centers. Seven people drowned at sea, including three at prohibited beaches (one each in Tizi Ouzou, Chlef, and Mostaganem) and three at permitted beaches (outside of Civil Protection service hours) (two in Chlef and one in Skikda). One person also drowned in Tipaza (dangerous swimming). At other water bodies, three drowning deaths were recorded (one each in Jijel, Tipaza, and Boumerdès).

Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 261 fires of vegetation, including: 83 forest fires, 15 bush fires, 44 scrub fires, 28 agricultural fires, 32 fruit tree fires, 46 hay bale fires and 13 palm fires, across several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to the rest of the vegetation.
