The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 30, 2026 and August 1, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

Between July 30, 2026, and August 1, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 12,326 interventions (an average of one intervention every 14 seconds), including 4,070 medical evacuations and 1,012 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 446 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 44 deaths at the scene and 638 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The heaviest toll was recorded in Boumerdès Province, with 27 deaths and 42 injuries of varying severity. This resulted from a tragic traffic accident involving a passenger bus that veered off the road and overturned at a location called “El Karma” on National Route 24, in the municipality and district of Boumerdès. Additionally, 4 deaths and 43 injuries occurred following a collision between a passenger bus and a truck on National Route 51, in the municipality and district of Timimoun.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish (4) urban and other fires in the provinces of Batna, Sidi Bel Abbès, In Guezzam, and Algiers. These fires resulted in minor burns to (2) people in the province of Sidi Bel Abbès, following a fire that broke out in the fruit and vegetable market in the Emir Abdelkader neighborhood of Sidi Bel Abbès municipality. The victims were treated at the scene by our services and transferred to the local health center. The rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed for the extinguishing of these fires and prevented their spread to other adjacent areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 48 hours, they carried out 3,029 interventions, rescuing 2,139 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 716 people on site. Additionally, 162 people were transferred to local health centers. Six deaths were recorded at sea, including five drownings at beaches where swimming is prohibited. These incidents occurred in the provinces of El Tarf, Tipaza, Mostaganem, Oran, and Chlef. The victims’ bodies were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals by Civil Protection personnel.
Similarly, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 87 vegetation fires, including: 15 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 14 scrubland fires, 5 crop fires, 15 fruit tree fires, 25 hay bale fires, and 10 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
