The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between September 20 and 21, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

   Between September 20 and 21, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 2,955 interventions—averaging one every 29 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 197 incidents across the country. These accidents resulted in five fatalities at the scene and left 237 others with injuries of varying severity; victims received on-site care before being transported by our teams to local hospitals.

Additionally, Civil Protection personnel in Mascara Province intervened to extinguish a fire in a third-floor apartment of a four-story building (ground floor plus three upper floors) in the “500-Housing Unit” district of Sig Municipality and District. The fire caused three people to suffer from respiratory distress and left one other person with various injuries. The victims were treated on-site and subsequently transported to the local hospital. Our emergency teams successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building. Regarding beach and recreational water safety operations over the past 24 hours, lifeguards carried out 178 interventions. These efforts resulted in the rescue of 95 people from imminent drowning and the provision of on-site first aid to 82 individuals; one person was transferred to a local health center. No drowning fatalities were recorded in the sea or other bodies of water.

Additionally, during the same period, forest and crop fire suppression teams intervened to extinguish eight vegetation fires across various provinces. These included two forest fires, one brush fire, two fruit tree fires, two hay bale fires, and one palm tree fire. The rapid and effective response by our teams successfully extinguished these fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
