The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between September 3 and 5, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)
Between September 3rd and 5th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 7,414 interventions (an average of one intervention every 23 seconds), including 3,926 medical evacuations and 1,031 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
Civil Protection units responded to a wide range of calls for assistance from citizens across several provinces of the country. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 410 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 14 deaths at the scene and injuries to 547 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Ain Temouchent, where two people died and six others sustained various injuries when a vehicle veered off the road and overturned on National Route 35 in the municipality and district of Ain Temouchent.
Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish seven urban and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), Bejaia (1 fire), Ain Temouchent (1 fire), Skikda (1 fire), Chlef (1 fire), and Constantine (1 fire). These fires resulted in two people suffering from shortness of breath and one person sustaining injuries in Bejaia. The victims received necessary first aid and were transported to the local health center. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Furthermore, Civil Protection services in Medea province intervened following the explosion of a LPG cylinder in the garage of a two-story house (ground floor + 1 floor) in the Bab El Kawas neighborhood, Medea municipality and district. This incident resulted in two people sustaining second-degree burns to various parts of their bodies. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to the local health center.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 48 hours, they carried out 1,474 interventions, which resulted in the rescue of 1,019 people from imminent drowning, the provision of first aid to 390 people on site, and the transfer of 65 people to local health centers. One young man, aged 20, drowned in the rocky area known as Fifi (a prohibited swimming area) in the municipality and district of Annaba.
It should be noted that two deaths were recorded in water facilities in the provinces of Oran and Relizane. In Oran, a 47-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool inside a house in the Hayat Regency area of the municipality and district of Bir El Djir. In Relizane, a child drowned in an irrigation basin in the Chabira neighborhood of the municipality and district of Oued Rhiou. The victims were transferred to the morgues of the local hospitals. Similarly, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 41 vegetation fires, including: 9 forest fires, 3 bush fires, 7 scrubland fires, 7 fruit tree fires, 9 hay bale fires, and 6 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
