Direction Générale de la Protection Civile

Cautionary Notice for the Days of Eid al-Fitr

In anticipation of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, and in order to prevent various accidents, especially traffic accidents, as well as other accidents affecting children, which often result in numerous casualties among this age group, such as suffocation (airway obstruction), serious injuries, fires, and burns, due to the use of various toys (battery-operated toys, toys that emit sounds, toys shaped like animals or food, etc.).

To reduce the number of casualties resulting from the purchase and use of various types of toys, the General Directorate of Civil Protection calls on all citizens, especially parents, to be extra vigilant due to the dangers and potential for misuse of these toys. The use of these toys must be carried out in accordance with the following safety guidelines:

Toys must be age-appropriate, as older toys intended for children may contain small parts that pose a risk to young children.

Recommendations regarding the age range for the toy, warnings, and assembly instructions must be read and followed. High-quality, well-made toys are less dangerous. Toys should be promptly removed from packaging and disposed of, including bags, plastic wrapping, and nails, as these items pose a choking hazard to children.

Keep all toys, especially soft toys, away from heat sources, as they can cause fires, injuries, or property damage.

Always check toys for any hazards such as broken parts or sharp edges. Worn-out toys should be repaired or discarded.

Ensure that toys do not have sharp edges or points, as these can cause serious injuries.

Young children, especially those under three years old, often put small objects in their mouths, which can lead to choking or poisoning if ingested. These include small toys, balls, and small or broken pieces. Keep these items out of their reach. Always supervise children while they play and explain to them how to use toys safely.

In addition, the General Directorate of Civil Protection urges all road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and drive responsibly by reducing speed, avoiding dangerous maneuvers and overtaking, and maintaining a safe following distance.

In case of any accident, please contact the Civil Protection services on the toll-free number 1021 or the emergency number 14, specifying the nature of the accident and the exact address.
