Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 4 and 5, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

Between April 4th and 5th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,810 interventions (an average of one intervention every 30 seconds), including 1,795 medical evacuations and 324 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, security operations, and weather-related incidents.
From April 4th to 5th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units responded to calls for assistance, averaging one intervention every 30 seconds. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 161 incidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 8 fatalities at the scene and 180 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Laghouat province, where 6 people died and 1 was injured when a car veered off the road and collided with a passenger bus on National Route 1 in the municipality and district of Hassi R’mel.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 15 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. These incidents were reported in Setif province (8 cases), Annaba province (4 cases), and Mascara province (3 cases). The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported in stable condition to local hospitals.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers, Tlemcen, and Mostaganem, with no casualties reported. Our intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Furthermore, Civil Protection services in the province of Mila intervened following a butane gas leak explosion in a kitchen on the second floor of a two-story building (floor 1 + 2) in the Sanawa neighborhood of Mila municipality and district. The explosion resulted in injuries to two people, who sustained burns of varying degrees. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to the local hospital.
