Civil Protection Units intervention results between April 9 and 11, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

During the period extending from April 9 to April 11, 2026 (up until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 6,455 interventions—averaging one intervention every 27 seconds. These included 4,269 medical evacuations and 846 miscellaneous operations carried out across various provinces of the country, following the receipt of distress calls from citizens. These interventions encompassed the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, ranging from traffic accidents, domestic incidents, and medical evacuations to firefighting operations and security-related support. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 404 interventions following numerous incidents recorded across several provinces of the country. These incidents resulted in the deaths of 17 people at the scenes of the accidents and injuries of varying severity to 508 others. The victims were attended to at the accident sites and subsequently transported by our services to local hospitals. The deadliest incidents were recorded in the province of Naama, where three (03) people died and four (04) others sustained injuries across two separate traffic accidents. The first accident resulted in the deaths of two (02) women and injuries of varying severity to two (02) other individuals, following the deviation and rollover of a passenger vehicle on National Road No. 95, in the municipality of El-Bayoudh, within the El-Mcheria district. The second accident resulted in the death of one (01) person and injuries to two (02) others, following a collision between a passenger vehicle and a truck at kilometer marker 25 on National Road No. 119, in the municipality and district of El-Mcheria. The victims were attended to at the accident sites and transported to local hospitals. Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 12 individuals suffering from asphyxiation caused by inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) emitted from heating appliances and water heaters inside their homes across several provinces of the country. The victims received on-site treatment before being transported in stable condition to local hospitals. Meanwhile, in the province of Constantine, the death of a 43-year-old man was recorded; he succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning—emitted from a water heater and a space heater—inside a residence in the “Al-Karfa No. 04” neighborhood, Ain Smara Municipality, El Khroub District. The victim’s body was transported to the local hospital’s morgue.
Additionally, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish eight urban and industrial fires across several provinces: In Algiers, two separate fires resulted in injuries to two individuals in the Municipality and District of Dar El Beïda. In Boumerdès, two separate fires resulted in first-degree burns to one individual in the Municipality and District of Khemis El Khechna. In Khenchela, one fire occurred with no human casualties recorded. In Bordj Bou Arréridj, one fire occurred with no human casualties recorded. Finally, in Tizi Ouzou, two separate fires were recorded; one incident—a fire that broke out in a home within the social housing complex in the southwestern zone (Municipality and District of Tizi Ouzou)—resulted in the death of a 12-month-old infant and respiratory distress for three other individuals. The injured were attended to at the accident scenes and subsequently transported to local health centers; furthermore, the intervention of our teams enabled the extinguishing of the fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
